Opening Reception: Friday, August 4, 6-8PM
(Beverly Hills, CA – July 27, 2023) UTA Artist Space is pleased to present artist and animator Jeron Braxton’s Ouroboros, a representation of the interchangeable but oftentimes symbiotic nature of consumerism and addiction. Like the serpent of ouroboros, humans are pushed into a continuous state of “drive” and “chase” to be more, strive for more, and buy more, but fail to realize that they are running in circles. In this exhibition, Braxton sheds light on how people are constantly trying to consume it all – stability, chaos, drugs, peace, violence, harmony, sex, love, ourselves, other cultures, other selves – and above all, do not notice the strings that have been attached by the powers that be.
Arthur Lewis, Creative Director, UTA Fine Arts & UTA Artist Space states “We are thrilled to unveil the extraordinary world created by Jeron Braxton in his upcoming exhibition, Ouroboros. Witnessing the evolution of his creative journey has been nothing short of awe-inspiring. This exhibition marks a transformative moment, building on his successes in the realm of animation and blazing a new trail in the art world.”
Ouroboros, Braxton’s first solo art exhibition at UTA Artist Space Los Angeles, will feature work in a variety of mediums – video, collage, screen print, painting, sculpture, and immersive installations – bringing to life the worlds created through Braxton’s celebrated videos and games. The whimsical nature of Braxton’s characters, like his pill-eared bunny wryly named Oxycotton Tail, belie the heavier topics they grapple with, and pay homage to a deep history of film, literature and media that have inspired this body of work. Ouroboros demonstrates the truly multi-hyphenate sphere that Braxton effortlessly inhabits, straddling the blurry lines between film, gaming, fine art, fashion, and culture.
