Eighteen Hundred Roses; The Voice of Grief

Victoria Mikell

Victoria Mikell’s exhibition Eighteen Hundred Roses: The Voice of Grief explores the path of grief through denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. The exhibition is about truth and triumph and is a raw opportunity to examine oneself as they experience the themes of the pieces. Mikell adds texture to complicated emotions and situations through blending, juxtaposing and bringing depth to the canvas.

“Each piece of Eighteen Hundred Roses takes on a completely different narrative and style than the last,” said Mikell. “It’s a story about how to find one’s own footing after the rug has been snatched from beneath your feet. The story about the path to accepting what might feel like the saddest thing in the world.”

Eighteen Hundred Roses takes on another dimension with a hidden poem, which is divided into eight stanzas and separated on the back of each of piece. Only the owners of the art will experience the poem.
