David Sabastian

UTA Artist Space is pleased to present God’s Ransom, a three day pop-up exhibition of new work by David Sabastian at SEKRIT STUDIOS in the Arts District of Los Angeles.

Born and raised in LA, David Sabastian’s disruptive presence in music, fashion, and now the art world has transformed his life and music into an ongoing performance art piece. As a painter, David’s work is a testament to his versatility and depth. His artwork ranges from playful riffs on pop culture to thought-provoking explorations of  race and class.

This new body of work, in vibrant blue and stark white, remixes familiar imagery from the art historical canon, politics, sports, and the media. Wry textual commentary incorporated into the work gives voice to David’s observant perspective on our modern world.

David’s journey as an artist has not been without its challenges. Just three years ago, Sabastian was homeless, but his determination enabled him to overcome adversity and achieve remarkable success. Beyond his artistic pursuits, David has made a profound impact on his community. He played a crucial role in the establishment of Skid Row Fashion Week, an event encouraging manufacturing warehouses to support reforming, rehabilitating, and employing the residents of Skid Row. His provocative passion for humanity and art continues to inspire and influence not only the world of painting but also the realms of fashion, cinema, architecture, and visual art.
